Violet Crown - Free Stereo Bus Compression Channel Strip by M Media Audio
Violet Crown VST3 - Free Stereo Channel Strip in Cubase Pro

Six filters. A bus compressor. Zero dollars.

Violet Crown is a stereo channel strip built around the EQ and compression character that defined the sound of major-label bus processing. Three independent EQ bands - each with separate boost and cut controls - feed a custom RMS compressor with program-sensitive auto-release. The VU meters are real, the ballistics are analog, and the whole thing is free. No demo mode. No time limit. No license key. Drop it on a bus and play something.

EQ Section

Six independent filters. Three complete bands.

Most channel strip EQs give you one control per band. Violet Crown gives you two - a separate boost and cut filter per band, each with its own frequency selector. Stack them on the same band for complex, asymmetric shapes. Run them at different frequencies for two independent points of control in a single band. Six filters total, none of them sharing anything they do not need to share.

  • Low Band - Two independent shelves, 20 to 100 Hz each
  • Mid Band - Two independent peaks with shared Q, 200 Hz to 5 kHz
  • High Band - Two independent shelves, 800 Hz to 16 kHz each
  • Input Level - Pre-EQ trim from -8 to +8 dB
  • EQ-first or Comp-first - Routing toggle on the right panel

Compressor Section

RMS detection. Auto-release. Bus-calibrated.

Violet Crown uses a custom RMS compressor with per-channel independent processing - not the peak detection found in most plugin compressors. RMS detection responds to program energy, which means it catches the body of a mix rather than just its loudest transient. The auto-release mode adapts continuously: fast when working hard to prevent pumping, slow when barely touching to let the mix breathe. Set it and it sounds right immediately.

  • Threshold - -60 to 0 dB, default 0
  • Harder / Softer - 1.5:1 to 8:1, tuned for bus use
  • Attack - 1 to 200 ms
  • Release - Fully left: program-dependent auto-release. Any other position: 50 to 2000 ms fixed
  • Gain - -10 to +10 dB makeup, 0 dB at 12 o'clock

Metering

VU meters that are actually worth watching.

The two large VU meters show output level independently on the left and right channels with 300 ms ballistic RMS response - the same integration time as an analog VU meter. They are the visual center of the panel for a reason. When the needles are moving together, the stereo image is holding. When one pulls ahead of the other, you know before your ears do. When bypass is engaged, both meters go dark.
