Studio 351 VST3 - Dual-Channel Tape Preamp Interface

Straight Off Bypass, It's Already Working.

Studio 351 doesn't wait for you to touch a knob. The moment signal hits it, a fixed low-mid weight, retuned tube saturation goes to work - real Class A tape-machine heft. Every control is there to shape it further, but the character is already on the track before you make a single decision.

Input drives the saturation, Bass and Treble sit exactly where they matter, Output sets where it lands. The Tape Format EQ gives you one more move: 7.5 and 15ips NAB as well as 15ips AME, a single knob that recolors both channels at once.

VU meter

Load Drum Deck. Push the Input Past Noon.

Listen to the low end pick up mass, not just level. That's the fixed low-mid weight and retuned saturation doing exactly what they're built for. Every knob you touch from there is a real decision.

Tape Format EQ

7.5 NAB to 15 AME. Slower Means Bottom, Faster Means Air.

Tape Format EQ sits above both channel strips and recolors the whole plugin at once - it's not per-channel because it's not a mixing decision, it's a format decision. 7.5 NAB is the slowest of the three and the darkest, more bottom end, less top. 15 NAB picks up speed and evens things out, still an NAB curve underneath. 15 AME runs the same 15 ips but a completely different curve, and it's the brightest of the three.

It's a different move than Bass and Treble below it too - those are mix decisions per channel, Tape Format EQ is one format decision for both.

  • 7.5 NAB - Slowest speed. Most bottom end, least top end.
  • 15 NAB - Faster, more even. Moves off the bottom without chasing the top.
  • 15 AME - Same speed as 15 NAB, different curve entirely. The brightest of the three.

Channel Modes

Mono, Stereo, or Dual. Nothing Left Uncovered.

Three modes, three completely different jobs. Mono sums both inputs through a single channel and puts all the character straight up the center - kick drums, bass, anything that needs to hit hard and land in the middle. Stereo runs both channels together with one set of knobs shaping both sides, the way a classic stereo preamp runs.

Dual mode is what you came for. Each channel runs fully on its own - its own drive, its own response, its own level. Link them when you want them to match. Unlink them when the track demands something different from each side.

  • Mono - Both inputs summed. Full preamp character straight up the center.
  • Stereo - One set of controls, both sides tracking together.
  • Dual - Completely independent. Each side on its own schedule.

The VU Meters

Two Needles. Input or Output, Your Call.

Two large VU meters sit front and center, and a single switch decides what they're reading. Leave it on Output to watch what's actually leaving the plugin - the standard view. Flip it to Input to gain-stage what's coming in, before the preamp or any processing touches it. In Dual mode both needles read independently; in Mono mode the right needle rests and the left one tells you exactly where the track is landing.

Ten Factory Presets

Ten Presets. Zero Blank Slates.

Load Studio 351 and you're already in business. Drum Deck drives the input hard for low-end mass on a kick or drum bus. Reel Warmth and Vintage Heft lean into the tape-machine weight for a rounder, older character. Air & Iron opens the top up without losing the body underneath. Hot Bias pushes saturation harder for material that wants real grit, and Blend Ready pulls output back for parallel work.

Every preset is a real position, pulled from actual use against real program material - not a range demo. Load the one closest to the job, move from there, and trust your ears. Save your own presets, A/B between them, import and export.

  • Straight Tape - Flat baseline. All controls at unity, Stereo, 15 NAB.
  • Drum Deck - Hard input drive for low-end mass on drums.
  • Vintage Heft - Dark, heavy, old tape-machine weight.
  • Air & Iron - 15 AME, the brightest of the three curves - open top, full body underneath.
  • Blend Ready - Driven hard, output pulled back for parallel blending.
