Vinyl Flooring

$9.00

Records were never flat on the way in or the way out. Cutting a disc calls for one frequency response; playing it back calls for the corresponding inverse. Use the wrong playback curve and the music can sound like someone rearranged the furniture while you were out.

Vinyl Flooring gives you five of those equalization standards in one plugin: RIAA, Columbia LP, NAB, AES, and Decca/FFRR 1951. Use it for record transfers, for preparing a signal that needs a particular curve, or simply because a century of audio engineering left us some interesting shapes to play with.

Lay it down. Bring it back.

Select a standard, then choose Direction. Encode applies that curve in the recording direction; Decode applies the matching playback response. The two directions are designed as mathematical inverses of the same curve, so you can move between them without trying to approximate one side with a generic EQ.

Match the curve to the material when accuracy matters. An old record doesn't become an RIAA record just because the RIAA setting is nearby and has a familiar name.

Amount is the curve. Mix is the blend.

Amount changes the strength of the selected curve at every frequency. At 0%, the response is flat; at 100%, you get the full curve. Between those points, the curve keeps its shape at a reduced depth.

Mix takes a different route: it blends the processed audio with the dry signal. That matters with a minimum-phase filter, where a blend of two signals is not equivalent to dialing back the filter response itself. Use Amount to shape the equalization; use Mix to decide how much processed signal to hear.

Look at the curve. Listen to the difference.

The EQ Visualization panel shows the selected curve's response and updates as you change the standard, direction, or Amount. Live PRE and POST spectrum overlays show what happened to your actual audio. Engage Delta to audition the difference between the input and the result. The graph can tell you where to look; your ears still get the deciding vote.

Curve Standard (RIAA, Columbia LP, NAB, AES, Decca/FFRR 1951), Direction (Encode/Decode), Input, Amount, Mix, Output, Delta, and Power.
