Channel Modes
Three modes, three completely different relationships between Channel A and Channel B. Stereo mode links both channels to Channel A's settings for classic linked bus glue, the whole mix moving and breathing as one. Dual mode cuts them fully loose - independent threshold, attack, release, ratio, saturation, and output on each side, so the left and right of a wide stereo source can be treated completely differently.
Mid-Side mode is where The New Yorker gets serious. Channel A becomes your mid signal, Channel B becomes your side, and suddenly you're compressing the center and the width independently. Glue the center hard for punch and mono compatibility while keeping the sides open and airy, or the reverse. Link ties both channels together when you want everything moving as one, and unties them the instant the material asks for something else.
The Mix Knob
Blend the fully compressed signal against the untouched dry signal, per channel, and you've got the classic New York technique - punch and dynamics in the same breath, instead of trading one for the other. Push the Mix knob up for full glue, pull it back for parallel blend, and land anywhere in between depending on what the material needs. It's the same trick engineers have leaned on for decades, built into a box that happens to share the name.
Eight Factory Presets
Open The New Yorker and you're already gluing. Subtle Glue sits back and just tightens things up. Bus Glue is the workhorse - classic linked compression for a mix bus that needs to feel like one thing. Vocal Warmth adds body without squashing dynamics. Drum Bus Punch and Master Bus Glue do exactly what they say. Aggressive Pump buries both needles for the moments a track needs to be told what to do. Parallel Squash pushes hard while the Mix knob keeps your transients alive underneath it. Wide M-S Glue opens the stereo field while gluing the center tight.

The VU Meters
Two large VU meters sit at the heart of The New Yorker, and the Meters switch lets you decide what they're telling you. In GR mode they show gain reduction on each channel in real time, so you can watch exactly how hard the Vari-Mu engine is working. Flip to OUT mode and they read output level instead, the same analog-calibrated ballistics reading program material the way a meter in a real room does. Power the plugin down and the needles rest at zero, waiting - a visual cue that's easy to read from across the room.
